Seeking nomination for the next chairperson of Susila Dharma International

The next Susila Dharma International Chairperson and other new Board will be appointed at the World Congress in January 2010. The chairperson’s term is from one Congress to the next (4 years usually). Board members are elected by the members at the AGM for a 3 year period and we have a few vacancies to be filled at the next AGM, which will be held during Congress. Directors are elected by the voting members of SDIA – SD Nationals. Any SD projects can put forward names for consideration through their SD National or SDIA.

Procedures for nominating and approving candidates for SDIA chair:
We would like to have several candidates for SDIA Chairperson so that the International Helpers and delegates can have a choice.
A suitable candidate must be willing to serve and provide a CV and information about their skills and experience well before Congress.
Candidates may be nominated by any Voting member (National SD) or by the Board.

It is essential that before testing for Chairperson at World Congress the candidates meet the Board to talk to their experience, qualifications and ability to take on role and also describe their vision and what they can bring to the position. Only then will selected candidates will then be tested at the Congress Plenary.

Duties and responsibilities of the SDIA Chair:
The Chairperson provides leadership and facilitates the smooth functioning of the Board and members meetings and support the Executive Director - currently Virginia Thomas based in Montreal (with a small staff team) who is in charge of the day to day matters. The Chairperson represents SDIA on the World Subud Council of which he/she is an ex officio, non-voting member.

There is no honorarium for this position. Travel to Board meetings and AGMs and other expenses may be claimed.

Experience required:
No formal qualifications are required, but the chairperson should be a Subud member, speak English (our working language), able to travel and access internet .
Experience of Susila Dharma is essential. Experience and understanding of development work or other skills and knowledge (health care, education or non-profit organization management) is desirable.

Duties and responsibilities of Board member:
The Board sets the policies and direction of SDIA in consultation with the members. Usually there is one Board meeting a year plus conference calls of the whole Board and participation on various sub-committees dealing with specific issues.Liaise with with National SDs in own and neighbouring counties and where possible, attend national congresses and Zonal meeting. Board members also assist fund raise, report on Susila Dharma work and communicate with Subud members.
