SICA KNIT OFF! (Quilt Making Initiative)

KNIT OFF RUNS ON

The SICA sponsored knitting challenge, which has invited groups around Australia to get teams of knitters together to make rugs, has been a great success. Rugs have been donated from Brisbane, Perth, Northshore, Sydney & Wollongong groups with more promised from Canberra & Melbourne.

Rugs from around Australia have finally found their way to Sydney and they are FABULOUS!. We had a display of them – 7rugs at this stage – at Sydney (Newtown) hall in October along with a fundraiser lunch for the Solar Cooking cause. It was a delightful day. Here are some pictures of the rugs from that day.

The rugs will now be transported to Christchurch to be auctioned & raffled at Congress to raise money for a Solar Cooking charity. There will also be a Solar Cooking demonstration & promotion at Congress.

If you would like any further information about this project, please contact Vivienne Jacobs

WORLD CONGRESS

At world congress it is planned to exhibit the rugs & auction them – and possibly invite groups around the world to join us in the challenge & make a rug to donate as well.

Auction arrangements will be made with the Christchurch Congress organising committee.

THE CHARITABLE PROJECT

As many of you know I have a keen interest in solar cooking & its scope to ‘save the planet’ by lowering greenhouse gases. Susila Dharma has already given a grant to Zoy Horthy in Madagascar who is involved in promoting solar cooking & reforestation. I would like to give further support to his work and also do something locally. This still needs to be defined.

I have a DVD about solar cooking which some of you have seen. For those who haven’t, or if you would like your group to see it, please send me an address & I will send you a copy.

So, that’s the basics – please ask any questions or let me know of any concerns. You can also send interesting ideas/comments to the whole group if you like. Photos of your group in action & your experiences along the way would also be great to share once you get going. I intend to send out an email update to this group about once a month, & will add them in.

Many thanks for your support

Love & Best to all of you for now
