Virtual Congress Jan 2021

Content Creation For This Congress

The video above will give you some ideas for content, how this content will be created can include the following:

Smartphone - Brief Videos

Use your smartphone to take a short video whilst giving a brief commentary of what you are filming. Examples include a group property tour (as mentioned in the video) but there are many many other worthy topics including skills or knowledge that you may wish to share or perhaps even a landscape or a building of interest. Remember if it inspires you then it very likely will inspire other Subud members.  Also don't worry about having a polished start and end to your video just send it in we will cut the start and end bits off if you want that. The key to remember with this format is keep it brief, a maximum of 5 minutes and 2 - 3 minutes is ideal.

Tripod or Another Person Filming For You

For performances/demonstrations, be they musical, artistic, teaching a a skill etc you will need to put your smartphone on a tripod or get someone else to film you. Nothing fancy needed, no zooming in or out you can literally just tell the person "get me in shot then hold the camera still". However buying/borrowing a cheap tripod is best as you'll be amazed how much people shake when filiming. And again dont worry about the start and end where you are flimed and getting into position and ready, we can edit that out for you. These videos lengths can vary - dependent of course on what you are performing/demonstrating.

Presentations/Non Interactive Workshops

Two options here, first is tripod and camera and just talk to the camera and present, although this is tough if you arent experienced at doing this. So to help with this you can get a whiteboard and write/draw on that as you present.

Option 2  is to take a powerpoint presentation you have made (or wish to make) and run that on your computer whilst voicing over your presentation. If you wish to do this and dont know how then we can provide instructions of the technical side of how to do this.

Key Point: These videos can be as long as your presentaton lasts, but shorter is better, it's not like an in person presentaton when you can make eye contact and get instant feedback on your crowd. The better your presentation skills and the more interesting your topic the longer you can be but in all cases if you are too long winded people will just stop watching -  and we dont want that!

So may I suggest a guideline of 10 minutes for a presentation. Think about presenting the key concepts for the audience as we can provide a downloadable handout of the full power presentation to fill in on detail if needed.

Workshops are different as when you are teaching you will know your topic and know how its best presented and absorbed by your students and that includes the length of the workshop (or workshops if you want to split your sessions)

Previously Created Content

If you have video content already created then you're already good to go! However if you didnt create the video then you will probably need to seek permission for its use.

Interactive Workshops

Non interactive workshops were mentioned above, the idea being you are giving a workshop where the people attending will be following your instructions during the session or afterwards but you can't interact with them in real time as the workshop is pre recorded. But we can also do interactive workshops usings Zoom meetings. However, if you arent used to teaching in this way using zoom then remember this will be an extra hurdle to consider.

But the other side of the coin is that this is an increasingly used method for earning a living, so if it is a field you wish to explore, then perhaps the congress is an ideal place to take your first step by providing a free workshop to a small number of  supportive Subud members.

Getting Your Content To Us

Subud Australia has a dropbox that will be made available for you to upload your video to. And if you dont know what dropbox is or how to use it, don't worry their will be a member within your group to show you how. (You just film the content the we will take care of the rest!)
